On March 15th we gathered at the Tees Barrage for a planning meeting about our future Tees Project. The idea was to firm up some proposals for workshops, exhibitions and visits for inclusion in our Arts Council bid. Any resemblance to this picture by new membe, John Barchan, is purely coincidental.

aim4art is a voluntary community arts group, formed in 2009, dedicated to pushing the boundaries of painting and drawing in the Tees Valley. We aim to paint, aim to draw, aim to create art. We meet every Tuesday (10am-4pm) at The Barn, overlooking Hemlington Lake, Middlesbrough, TS8 9DA. We have no regular tutor, but support each other and organise a programme of visits and workshops. Teesmouth Field Centre
This was an exploratory visit in preparation for new project on the River Tees. Of course, the landscape is not dissimilar to Saltholme, but there is a closer view of industry and the prospect of some different views across the mouth of the Tees. We are hoping to return for a sketching and painting expedition later in the year.
Laing Gallery and Biscuit Factory Visit
A good day out mainly to see the 'Out Of Chaos'Exhibition at the Laing in Newcastle, featuring 20th century Jewish artist such as David Bomberg, Marc Chagal and Frank Auerbach, whose painting of Mornington Crescent is shown below:

Memories - Kate Geelan (with Karol Neilsen and Les Southerton)
It's good to see individual aim4art members having solo exhibitions or collaborations, like this one between Kate, Karol and Les at Stockton Library. Kate's 'Memories' relate mainly to Staithes and are a series of adventurous mixed media studies presented with Kate's trademark flair. They are complimented by Karol's imaginative paintings and Les' elegant and very reasonable pots.
