Peter Hicks Visit

For the first time I actually managed to attend a visit to Peter Hicks' studio and found it just as inspirational as I expected, though I have to admit I haven't actually got a paintbrush out yet.

Peter summed up his approach as 'Drawing with colour' and said he aimed to 'Speak about the landscape, rather than explicitly depict it.' He stressed the importance of developing skills, but then to abandon control and let the materials do what they want. His final message to us was, 'Never place any limits on the possibilities of where your work may go and what it can achieve.'

Thanks to Julia for the photos below:

Leeds Visit

Here are some pictures from our visit to the Tetley Gallery for the Jerwood Prize Exhibition followed by the slightly empty Leeds City Gallery. While you're here, have a look at the next post as well.

Is it a tree, do you think?

Nice door

A characteristic pose

Buying wallpaper?

Looks like an altercation?

Helen Gorrill Workshop

Here is a sample of some of the pictures we produced in response to Helen's random image generator. Sorry some of the photos aren't brilliant and I can't remember who painted which picture.
